About the project
The project features documentary portraits of mods at dance parties in different British cities. The mods is a subculture, that peaked in England in the early 60s, defined by young rebellious working-class people seeking to escape the ordinary British way of life. Wearing tailor-made suits, listening to music such as modern jazz, soul, ska and R&B and going to amphetamine-fuelled all-night dancing at clubs, the mods wanted to give an impression of both sophistication and rebellion against society.
